Something a bit different from me this month... all three year groups at my College went to Wake The Tiger in Bristol on Friday. I don't know if any of you are familiar with it at all but essentially it is a multisensory maze of different fantasy film sets / escape rooms in a steampunk style, with interesting lighting effects and plenty of repurposed vintage ephemera. The question here was where to point the camera first as you might imagine! The lighting was very selective, but well designed and here it was almost as good as studio lighting because it lit up all the right areas of this desk, which held a display of antiquarian books. I'm not sure what to think about this image, as indeed the whole experience, which is why I put it here. One of the advantages of this venue is that it allows creative / fantasy style photographs to be taken that would normally have to be constructed in Photoshop. This image is, therefore just cropped and slightly sharpened but otherwise untouched, I'm not sure if it should have a boost in contrast or something.
A great still life image with the focus on the clip board adding to that sense of mystery of what they were doing and the details in the shadows seems to add to the story, as for the colours I personally think they are OK and more natural as they are.
For me, the light fall off is a little too harsh. It looks like a still life so you should have full control of the light (I can see from the comments that you didn't) but a judge wouldn't know that. There's also a blue edge to the shadow at the bottom which looks a little strange. I think it's also missing a compelling point of interest - a skull anyone?
