Unfortunately this image is not too well represented by the JPEG copy seen here, but hopefully it is clear enough to comment on. I took this on Wistley Hill during the Summer, didn't think much of it, then had a play with it today cropping and adjusting tone / contrast etc. and thought I managed to get an interesting enough image out of it to put it in here. As well as the mono conversion the tree next to it has been cloned out.
Hi Saul, this looks a lot better on my phone than on my PC, probably because of the downsizing to 800x800. I do like the grasses at the bottom they give it a nice painterly feel, and I like the shape of the tree, but the mass of the tree doesn't really work for me, I feel that I want more detail and the monochrome treatment means that a lot of it just blends together. Of course I don't know if there's any more in the colour version. The sky doesn't look very uniform - it looks like you've missed a few patches in the top right quarter of the tree where the sky is brighter - it may have been brighter in reality, but it looks like an editing error. I think it might improve it to make the tree fully central.
Cheers, Des :-)
An otherwise attractive image is slightly spoilt by the holes in the top left of the foilage. This was no doubt how it was but I would be tempted to try some cloning to keep the overall shape. I like the grasses at the bottom as well.
