I was at Rievaulx Abbey a couple of weeks ago and was attracted to the flowers / weeds growing in some of the old stones. Wondering about where to crop, if at all.
David
Interesting picture, and well seen. I can see why you may be wondering about cropping, it seems a very 'busy' image, but then that maybe best conveys the location? Not sure myself, but if you were to crop, one suggestion would be to create two images by dividing it down the column just left of centre... although it's kind of good just as it is. This picture makes me stop and consider it... for me this shows it was successful.
Hi David, I agree with Saul, the grass at the left is quite powerful, but doesn't fit with the rest, I would however leave as much of the recession of columns as you can without including any of the greenery to the left. I'd also crop one more stone up from the bottom which I think gives it a better aspect ration and also makes if feel a bit more intimate.
I do really like the series of columns at the right which leads you to the two arches filled with green at the end.
Cheers, Des :-)
Tricky one this,I really like the series of columns on the right but I find that the arch on the left with the bright green distracts me, perhaps crop out left hand side. Great detail throughout the image and the dark wall in front I think adds to the image, great shot

I can see your dilema. If you had the image just from the top of the step and above (and preferably higher as well) then it would be an excellent architecture record. On the other hand if you reallywanted to emphasise the plant life, you could crop most of the top of the image. I spent a few hours at this location in 2013.
