I saw this “Touching Souls” statue by Tewkesbury Abbey wearing the hat. I maximised the hat’s whiteness, and tried to balance the contrast between the darkish statue and the background. I tried a crop of the just the one in the hat but I feel it needs the full group.
Yes I agree you need all the figures in. I really like the concept of this image and mono seems to work. To me although it is important for the hat to jump out and be the whitest thing I feel the background is too bright and the statues not bright enough, maybe this was just the light on the day. There just seems to be something in need of adjustments in the range of tones here. But my advice is to persist with this picture as I think it is very well seen and that hat brings the statues to life in my view.
I like this image, have been there many times :-) The hat definitely adds to it, but like Saul thinks it needs more contrast - i think the figures neet to be a bit darker and more gritty, they feel a bit muddy.
I also think it needs straightening up, it all seems to be falling to the right.
