This is an photo I took at a recent grandson football match - he was in goal. It is a rare attempt at an action shot. I blurred the background.
Hi David, a very nice action shot, I like that the ball is not quite on the ground and that the main player and immediate supporting cast are all in mid-action, although it doesn't look as if the striker is going to kick the ball :-(
I think the blurring of the background has worked well, and a judge over here judging a sport round suggested (very often!) that a slight desaturation of the background can help the subject pop more - it might work here if done carefully.
One thing that I think would make it stronger is to clone out the player on the left, he's very bright, but not really adding to the action, and it shouldn't be do difficult to do. It would stop my eyes at least from going to top left.
Cheers, Des :-)
Good action shot. I am not absolutely sure the LHS player needs to go but worth trying and makinga comparison. I bet the lad with the red hat woud be well pleased with this picture and could claim he went on to score (even if he did not).
